Malaysia Arrests Three Male Students Suspected of Killing 16-Year-Old Female Student

Malaysian authorities have arrested three male students suspected of murdering a 16-year-old female student. The Malaysian Prime Minister has called for a prompt investigation and strict punishment.

Foreign news agencies reported that three male students were detained as suspects in the murder of a female high school student in Johor, Malaysia. On Sunday, 4 Oct 2026 GMT+7, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim called for a swift investigation.

The 16-year-old female student, Irene Sofiya Muhammad Khairul Faisal, did not return home after extra classes at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Her grandmother searched for her at school and found her unconscious and covered in blood in the high school auditorium in Yong Peng city.

An autopsy revealed multiple wounds on her head and body, and she was declared dead at the scene.

Police arrested three 16-year-old male students from the same school shortly after the body was discovered. One suspect was brought to court and remanded for six days; he has no prior criminal record. The status of the other two suspects has not been clearly disclosed.

The police are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. The motive and cause remain under inquiry.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim posted condolences to the victim’s family and ordered related agencies to conduct a thorough, urgent, and transparent investigation. He emphasized that if criminal elements are found, offenders must be punished severely under the law, and the government will not compromise on children's safety.

The victim’s aunt described Irene as diligent, polite, well-behaved, and an excellent student who often ranked first or second in her class. Irene dreamed of becoming a doctor, following in the footsteps of her mother, who had passed away from cancer earlier.

Classmates said Irene was among the top students at school, and no one expected such a shocking incident to occur.
