Russia Launches Airstrikes Across Ukraine, Killing 26 Including 5 Children

Russia launched airstrikes across several regions in Ukraine once again, hitting multiple residential buildings and causing at least 26 deaths, including 5 children, with many others injured.

Foreign news agencies reported that Russia’s nationwide air attacks on Wednesday, 7 Oct 2026 GMT+7, resulted in at least 26 deaths, including 5 children, after missiles struck residential buildings in Pryluky, northern Ukraine, while people were sleeping.

Reports said missiles hit a five-story residential building in Pryluky, Chernihiv region, destroying half the structure. Nineteen civilians died at that site.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed that among the dead were three infants aged just 12 months and one 8-year-old child. Additionally, seven children were injured.

Meanwhile, Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, was again targeted by Russian strikes, causing three deaths and a fire in the Darnytskyi district. Power outages were reported in some areas, affecting the metro and water systems, forcing many residents to seek shelter in underground subway stations.

There were also reports of fatalities from missile strikes on high-rise buildings in the central Ukrainian cities of Kremenchuk, Dnipro, and Oleksandriya.

The Ukrainian Air Force stated that Russia fired more than 50 missiles and over 130 drones at various regions, and that they were struggling to intercept ballistic missiles.

Zelensky condemned the continuous attacks on civilians and children as "deliberate terror" and called on allies to urgently send additional air defense systems.

However, Ukraine retaliated by sending drones to attack Russian oil infrastructure and military training camps in several regions, including Perm territory, Samara region, and Astrakhan region.

Officials in the Russian-occupied Kherson region said Ukrainian drone strikes killed two people, including a teenage girl. Additionally, two more deaths were reported in a village near Donetsk city, the administrative center of the eastern Donetsk region.
