Putin Meets Iranian Leader in Turkmenistan, Affirms Russias Readiness to Help Resolve Middle East Conflict

Vladimir Putin met with the Iranian leader in Turkmenistan, affirming Russia's readiness to help resolve conflicts in the Middle East, while Pessezkian expressed dissatisfaction with the U.S., noting attacks continue whenever talks occur.

On 8 October 2026, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Iranian President Masoud Pessezkian and Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedow in Awaza, Turkmenistan, amid diplomatic efforts to ease tensions between Iran and the United States.

Putin told the Iranian leader that Russia is prepared to do everything possible to help ease the situation, noting that Iran is seeking peaceful solutions and has proposed new approaches to resolve the conflict.

Pessezkian spoke about negotiations with the U.S., saying Iran is pushing to continue the dialogue but is dissatisfied that the U.S. attacks Iran after every discussion. Nonetheless, Iran will not withdraw from the talks and has already proposed solutions to the issues.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump stated on social media that the U.S. would not attack Iran before the U.S. midterm elections on 3 November, citing progress in the ongoing discussions between the two sides.

The temporary agreement between the U.S. and Iran signed in June, aiming for a 60-day ceasefire leading to a permanent peace deal, collapsed within weeks after renewed military actions and disputes over control of the Strait of Hormuz. Negotiations remain stalled after Trump rejected Iran’s recent proposal to open the Strait within seven days if the U.S. agreed to certain conditions. Meanwhile, Russia declared its readiness to support efforts to resolve the regional conflict.
