A ceiling collapse occurred at a supermarket in South Korea, injuring 38 people. The president has ordered officials to fully assist the victims.
On Saturday, 10 Oct 2026 GMT+7, South Korean firefighters reported that plaster ceiling panels collapsed inside a supermarket in Daegu, South Korea, resulting in 38 minor injuries and the evacuation of 66 building occupants.
Officials said they were alerted at 10:16 a.m. Nine injured people were taken to hospital, but they believe it is very unlikely that anyone was seriously hurt.
Photos from the scene showed rescue workers searching through debris after the collapse on the second floor of the four-story building. The exact cause of the collapse remains unclear.
The office of South Korean President Lee Jae-myung said he ordered officials to make every effort to help those affected and carefully manage the collapse incident.
