A man carried out a mass shooting that killed eight people, including two children, at a home in Pennsylvania, USA, before taking his own life following a police standoff.
Erie News Now reported that on the afternoon of Friday, 9 Oct 2026 GMT+7, police received reports of a violent incident on a street in Erie city. Witnesses said they saw a man firing a gun before entering a residence, and two female victims were found deceased on the street.
The gunman then locked himself inside the house while police surrounded the building and ordered him to surrender. Several more gunshots were heard. When officers entered the home, they found multiple victims along with the gunman's body, who had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Erie city mayor’s office issued a statement confirming the death toll on the following Saturday, stating, “Investigators have concluded that all deaths occurred before the police arrived.”
“The deaths were not caused by the prolonged standoff or any delay in police response,” the statement added.
Erie Police Chief Rick Loreh said officers would refrain from speculating on motives or any information that could impact the investigation and legal proceedings related to the incident.
Meanwhile, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro expressed full support from the state government, saying, “Following the tragic mass shooting in Erie last night, which claimed the lives of nine Pennsylvanians” (including the perpetrator).
“I am heartbroken and devastated for this family,” he said, adding that he and his wife “join in prayer for their loved ones and the entire Erie community.”
