A Saudi Arabia-led coalition launched an attack on an oil depot in Yemen's capital, and a few hours later, the Houthi group retaliated by firing missiles and sending drones to attack several cities in Saudi Arabia.
On Tuesday, 13 Oct 2026 GMT+7, the Saudi-led coalition attacked the al-Sabaha oil depot of the Yemen Petroleum Company near Sana'a, controlled by the Houthi rebels. The attack caused a massive explosion and resulted in at least two fatalities.
A few hours later, a spokesperson for the coalition revealed they intercepted four missiles and two drones over Riyadh, as well as repelling attacks in other cities such as Dammam and Dhahran. These were believed to be retaliatory strikes by the Houthi rebels.
Earlier, the Houthis had threatened to attack Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport, the Aramco oil refinery in Riyadh, and Aramco's headquarters in Dammam.
The attack on the oil depot in Sana'a caused panic among residents, leading many to queue at gas stations fearing fuel shortages. Meanwhile, Yemen Petroleum Company stated the depot held no oil reserves and had prepared response measures.
This latest retaliation followed a statement from Saudi Arabia's cabinet, led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, warning the Houthis to "face consequences" after the attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, which killed 13 people on Saturday and one more on Sunday.
U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that the Houthis were "behaving badly" and deliberately inflating oil prices. He also hinted he might ask Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to help intervene in the situation.
The United Nations reported that the conflict in Yemen, including clashes between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia, has significantly increased fatalities since August, with at least 54 civilian deaths—over half children—and more than 216,000 displaced people.
The conflict has also worsened Yemen's humanitarian crisis, with many needing urgent food and sanitation aid. The UN noted suspected cholera cases in Yemen have tripled within just three weeks.
