Australian Woman Charged for Poisoning Coworkers Curry with Slug Bait

An Australian woman has been charged with causing harm to others after being accused of secretly adding slug bait to a coworker's curry.

Foreign news agencies reported on 15 Oct 2026 GMT+7 that police in Western Australia charged a woman after she was accused of secretly putting slug bait into a coworker's curry during a shared meal in February.

Police said the 58-year-old victim was preparing food for coworkers during a morning tea break. When she returned later to eat the leftover curry, she noticed bright green pellets in it. After tasting it, she felt numbness on her tongue, reported it to authorities, and tests later confirmed the mysterious substance was slug poison containing metaldehyde, a hazardous toxin.

The 43-year-old accused woman, who was in a relationship with the victim, was charged with acts endangering the life, health, or safety of others following months of investigation. She is scheduled to appear in court on 5 Nov 2026 GMT+7.

Police alleged that the 43-year-old suspect entered the chemical storage area before returning to the staff room where the curry was kept.

Western Australia Police Commissioner Cole Blanch told reporters, “We are fortunate and very grateful that the person who tasted the curry was alert and immediately recognized something was wrong.” He emphasized that the poison can cause serious injury or death.
