Moscow officials confirmed that Russia is ready to resume tripartite talks with Ukraine and the United States to seek an end to the war that has lasted over four years, possibly as soon as next month.
On Wednesday, 21 Oct 2026 GMT+7, Yuri Ushakov, a key advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin, stated that his country is "principally ready" to revive tripartite negotiations with the U.S. and Ukraine to end the war ongoing for more than four years.
Ushakov made these remarks following Putin's meeting with Steve Witkoff, the special envoy of former U.S. President Donald Trump, in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
Earlier, Ukraine called on Moscow to immediately resume tripartite talks after discussions were suspended in February due to the outbreak of conflict between the U.S. and Iran in the Middle East. Ushakov indicated that the new round of talks could be held next month.
Witkoff visited Moscow after meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as well as leaders of Norway and Finland in Oslo last Monday. However, Ushakov said the proposals and ideas from those parties remain "not very useful".
Senior officials from Russia, Ukraine, and the U.S. have restarted discussions to seek an end to the war in Ukraine in recent months. However, these talks were temporarily suspended, with Moscow citing Ukraine’s "major" offensive against Russia in September as the cause.
Ushakov told reporters after Putin’s meeting with Witkoff in Saint Petersburg that the new talks might take place around 10 November and stressed that discussions must focus on "building a security system for Russia and Ukraine after the conflict ends."
