Houthi Group Launches New Attacks on Saudi Airports, Killing 2 and Injuring Several

The Houthi group launched a new attack on an airport in eastern Saudi Arabia, resulting in 2 deaths. They also attacked oil facilities and an airport in the southern part of the country.

Foreign news agencies reported on 22 Oct 2026 that Yemen's Houthi group admitted to carrying out an attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, eastern Saudi Arabia, last Wednesday. Saudi authorities said the attack killed 2 people and injured 8 others.

The Saudi Civil Aviation Authority stated the dead included a Saudi citizen and an Indian citizen. They did not specify the type of weapon used, but the Houthis claimed they used drones and missiles.

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Energy said the Houthis also attacked Saudi Aramco's facilities at the Shaybah oil field. Although officials intercepted the attacking drones, falling debris caused 2 more deaths, a Filipino and a Nepali.

Yahya Saree, a Houthi military spokesman, claimed their forces attacked multiple targets including the Ministry of Defense in Riyadh, Aramco's factory in Yanbu, and Abha International Airport in the south, but he did not mention the Shaybah oil field attack.

Since the Yemeni conflict reignited in July, the Houthis have imposed a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia and seized strategic areas around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait in the Red Sea. They have continuously launched missile and drone attacks on Saudi targets, claiming retaliation for Saudi strikes on their territory.

Saudi authorities reported that since October, airport attacks in Saudi Arabia have caused at least 21 deaths, including 13 at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on 10 Oct, which also left 308 injured.

Meanwhile, the Houthis claimed that the Saudi-led Arab coalition conducted airstrikes on areas under their control in Yemen to support government forces, resulting in 6 civilian deaths last Wednesday.
