The White House revealed that Melania Trump helped facilitate a temporary ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine in the city of Oleshky, starting 29 October, to allow humanitarian aid delivery and civilian evacuation.
On 23 October 2026, the U.S. White House announced that Melania Trump, the First Lady, had coordinated a temporary halt to military operations between Russia and Ukraine in the southern Ukrainian city of Oleshky, set to begin on 29 October, to enable humanitarian aid and safe civilian evacuation.
A statement from the Office of the First Lady said Melania and her representatives worked directly with leaders of Russia and Ukraine to negotiate the details of the agreement, including timing, procedures, and implementation, acting as a mediator in the coordination process.
Melania stated that the situation in Oleshky, located on the war front, is critical and at risk of catastrophe due to urgent shortages of medical supplies, food, clean water, and electricity. Under the agreement, civilian representatives from both countries are expected to meet residents to assess humanitarian needs and coordinate travel for those wishing to evacuate to destinations in either Russia or Ukraine.
Oleshky lies opposite the Dnipro River from the city of Kherson. Before the war, its population was about 24,000, but currently, it is estimated that only 1,700-2,000 people remain, mostly elderly residents and approximately 50 children.
