Obama Criticizes Trump While Campaigning for Democrats Ahead of Midterm Elections

Barack Obama is campaigning to support the Democratic Party ahead of the midterm elections, fiercely criticizing Donald Trump on issues including the cost of living, the Iran war, and controversial advertisements.

Foreign news agencies reported that former U.S. President Barack Obama visited Ohio and Michigan on Saturday, 24 Oct 2026, to help Democrats campaign for the midterm elections on 3 Nov, which will decide which party will hold the majority in Congress.

During his speech, Obama harshly attacked Trump over rising living costs and soaring prices, the impact of the Iran war, White House renovations, and the Republican Party's use of attack ads targeting Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton’s past.

"This election is our best and last chance to stop the foolishness of this administration," Obama said. "After two years of chaos, cruelty, corruption, and unprecedented incompetence in the modern era, this is your chance to say 'Enough is enough.'"

The former U.S. president added, "If you thought everything was expensive before 'you-know-who' came along, now everything is even more costly." He joked about Trump's White House decorations, asking, "What’s with all that gold? He’s made the White House look like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory."

Obama also criticized Vivek Ramaswamy, who aired an ad featuring Amy Acton’s estranged mother accusing her daughter of lying. However, the ad failed to mention that the mother’s new husband was once accused of raping Acton as a child, and the two have been estranged for a long time.

"In recent days, we've seen there's no line he won't cross, no low he won’t stoop to just to stay in the spotlight. Just consider the latest ad he released," Obama said.

On the same day, U.S. President Donald Trump held a campaign rally in Georgia promoting immigration and tariff policies, while promising financial payouts if Republicans win the elections.

"We are in America’s golden era," Trump stated, acknowledging that oil prices have "temporarily risen," but adding, "Our country is getting stronger every moment, and those gas prices at the pump are going to come down." He also noted, "We’re collecting huge revenues through tariffs."

Trump reiterated his promise to give $5,000 to every adult American if Republicans secure majorities in both houses of Congress.

He accused the Democrats of "stealing your property" and "destroying your borders," claiming they are trying to open immigration to countries filled with terrorism, and recalled a prior meeting with senators.

"I said, 'Why do we keep taking people from those terrible countries? Why can’t we take people from countries like Norway, Sweden, or Denmark?'"

Trump also asserted that he is managing the Iran conflict "effectively," adding, "I might have to finish this war decisively, or maybe they’ll agree to a deal, but I’m not sure. Either way, we win."
