An English court sentenced Chris Brown, a famous R&B singer, to 8 months in prison for assaulting a music producer in a nightclub but suspended the sentence for 12 months.
Foreign news agencies reported on 26 Oct 2026 that Chris Brown, the 37-year-old American R&B singer, was sentenced by an English court to 8 months in prison, suspended for 12 months, for assaulting a music producer with a glass bottle in a luxury nightclub in central London.
The incident occurred on 19 Feb 2023 at the private club Tape in Mayfair, London. CCTV footage showed Chris Brown approaching music producer Abraham 'Eb' Daw and striking him four times with a large square-shaped tequila bottle, hitting his head twice.
Then Omololu Akinlolu, a rapper who was Brown's vocal coach, came to assist by punching the victim. The entire assault lasted no more than 20 seconds.
After the incident, Daw was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in London, where doctors diagnosed head and knee injuries. He was discharged after receiving pain medication. However, a March scan revealed severe injury to the ligaments in his left knee.
In court, Chris Brown and Akinlolu pleaded guilty to "public disorder," covering all violent behavior in the incident. Prosecutors agreed to drop more serious charges Brown previously denied, including grievous bodily harm, assault, and possession of a weapon.
Ultimately, the court sentenced Chris Brown to 8 months in prison, suspended for 12 months. Akinlolu received a 4-month suspended sentence for 12 months. Both were ordered to pay £1,500 each in court fees.
This ruling means neither will serve prison time as long as they do not reoffend within the 12-month period.
The judge noted that striking someone’s head with a glass bottle is extremely dangerous and violent, and emphasized that fame or success does not grant special privileges.
However, the court suspended the sentences because the defendants admitted guilt and complied with bail conditions. The judge also considered the impact on Brown’s four children and recent changes in English sentencing laws encouraging suspended sentences absent exceptional reasons.
The court also assessed a low risk of reoffending by the defendants and noted the victim did not pursue further legal action afterwards.
