Flavio Bolsonaros Passport Cancelled After Failing to Surrender It as Ordered by Court

Brazilian police have cancelled Flavio Bolsonaro's passport after he refused to surrender it as ordered by the court, in connection with a money laundering investigation in which he is a suspect.

Foreign news agencies reported on 27 Oct 2026 that Brazilian police ordered the cancellation of the passport of Flavio Bolsonaro, a senator and right-wing presidential candidate, after he refused to hand over the passport within 24 hours as mandated by the court.

Flavio is under investigation for corruption, money laundering, and tax evasion related to fundraising and the use of funds for film projects connected to his father Jair Bolsonaro, the former president. Authorities suspect embezzlement, financial forgery, or laundering of illegal money through this project.

Additionally, the Supreme Court has instructed police to further investigate Flavio's presidential campaign amid suspicions of illegal foreign campaign funding.

Due to the high value of the suspected money laundering and financial transactions, and the risk of him leaving the country, the Supreme Court ordered Flavio's passport seized after the election on Sunday, which then led to its cancellation because he failed to surrender it by the deadline.

Currently, Flavio's whereabouts are unclear, but his failure to submit the document on time has fueled speculation that he may have already left the country. Federal police are checking border crossings with neighboring Argentina, though Argentine authorities confirm no record of Flavio entering their country.

Flavio, 45, recently lost the presidential runoff election to incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, with 48.21% to 51.79%, a difference of about 4.4 million votes, despite winning the first round on 4 Oct.

However, Flavio has not accepted the defeat and has called for the election to be annulled, claiming he was disadvantaged by the two-hour extension of polling on election day, even though his Liberal Party has accepted the election results.

Both campaigns requested the polling extension: Lula's team argued voters in São Paulo and Bahia states were unable to reach polling stations due to a shortage of buses, while Flavio's team cited heavy rain in some southern areas of the country.
