Donald Trump has asserted he will accept the midterm election results if the election is fair, as he presses ahead with his campaign amid polls indicating the Republican Party may suffer defeat.
On 27 Oct 2026 GMT+7, Donald Trump, the 80-year-old U.S. president, told the media before traveling to campaign in Texas that he would accept the upcoming midterm election results next week if “it is a fair election,” which many see as an attempt to cast doubt on the election’s legitimacy.
“I will accept it if it is a fair election,” Trump said after reporters asked whether he would accept the midterm election results.
Some critics have expressed concern that Donald Trump may be preparing to challenge the midterm election results or potentially invoke some form of emergency power if the Republicans lose.
Earlier, Trump escalated claims of election fraud without providing any evidence, announcing a $1 million reward for information leading to the punishment of election fraudsters, amid polls indicating the Republican Party may lose its congressional majority to the Democrats.
At the same time, Republicans are worried about a “Blue Wave” from the Democrats, as voters are dissatisfied with inflation and rising oil prices following Trump’s initiation of a conflict with Iran, prompting him to campaign nearly daily to energize the MAGA (Make America Great Again) base.
Trump spoke about working with the Democrats if Republicans lose the majority, saying, “We will find a way to handle it. Listen, I have strong veto power. I hope that doesn’t happen, but if it does, as has happened with many presidents... when you have strong veto power, you eventually negotiate and make deals.”
This trip to Texas marks Trump's third in one month, as polls show the Senate race there is very close. Trump also said he will receive 1 million barrels of crude oil from Venezuela, accompanied by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
