Images have surfaced showing Flavio Bolsonaro, a candidate for Brazil's presidency, along with his wife and daughter, departing from Miami International Airport in Florida on Wednesday, after secretly leaving Brazil following his defeat to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
This journey came after Bolsonaro rejected the election results over the previous 48 hours and threatened to annul them. Meanwhile, the US government under President Donald Trump approved visas for him and his family to enter the country on Monday.
Reports indicate that before arriving in the United States, 45-year-old Bolsonaro, together with his wife Fernanda Antunes Figueira Bolsonaro and their two daughters, Carolina Figueira Bolsonaro and Luisa Figueira Bolsonaro, traveled from Brazil into Argentina and then headed toward Ecuador, according to Argentine immigration authorities.
The reports state that the family entered Argentina at 10:50 p.m. on Tuesday via the Tancredo Neves International Bridge, a key border crossing connecting Brazil with the Misiones province in northeastern Argentina.
Meanwhile, Brazil's Supreme Court is investigating Bolsonaro in two cases related to allegations of corruption, money laundering, and tax evasion. The court ordered him to surrender his ordinary and diplomatic passports by noon on Tuesday, but he did not appear as scheduled. Supporters claim he also holds an Italian passport.
Paulo Figueredo, a close associate of Bolsonaro living in the United States, stated he could not confirm information from foreign agencies but affirmed that Flavio is safe and resting with his family.
On Wednesday, President Donald Trump said he was pleased to allow Bolsonaro entry into the United States, praising Bolsonaro and his family as good people.
This journey is also likely to heighten diplomatic tensions between Brazil and Argentina, since Argentine President Javier Milei, who has close ties to Trump, previously traveled to Brazil to campaign for Bolsonaro.
