Binance revealed that it has recovered more than 90% of the over 200 billion baht in digital assets stolen by hackers, while about 50% of the stolen funds have been frozen.
Foreign news agencies reported on 31 Oct 2026 GMT+7 that Binance was hacked and lost more than $6.3 billion USD (approximately 210 billion baht). The company now states it has recovered about 90% of the lost assets, with the remaining 10% expected to take more time to retrieve.
Binance confirmed it will restore 100% of the lost funds and will bear all losses itself to prevent any impact on users, using company capital and reserves totaling over $6.34 billion USD.
Binance stated that major assets like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, and seven other actively traded digital coins have been fully replenished. The next goal is to resume normal withdrawal services for users, scheduled for Sunday, 1 Nov 2026 GMT+7.
This incident is the largest crypto platform hack in history, vastly surpassing the previous record set by the 1.5 billion USD Bybit hack in 2025.
Initial investigations found that an engineer’s laptop was compromised, allowing unauthorized withdrawals. Additional breaches were discovered later. Co-CEO Richard Teng said multiple perpetrators were involved, using sophisticated techniques such as “self-destruct mechanisms” to erase traces.
Previously, Binance disclosed cooperation with law enforcement and cybersecurity firms, successfully freezing about $3 billion USD of stolen assets. Meanwhile, U.S. intelligence agencies are working around the clock to track and recover the remaining funds.
Leading blockchain analysis firms indicate strong evidence that the perpetrators are likely the “TraderTraitor” group, part of the “Lazarus Group” espionage organization backed by North Korea, although Pyongyang has consistently denied involvement.
