Iran Announces It Is Ready to Reopen the Strait of Hormuz Within Two Days If the US Meets Its Demands

Iranian officials revealed they are ready to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within two days if the United States meets their demands, while Donald Trump stated there are still targets to strike in Iran.

On Monday, 2 Nov 2026 GMT+7, Esmail Bagaei, spokesperson for Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said they are prepared to reopen navigation in the Strait of Hormuz within the next two days if the US agrees to their demands, shortening the previous offer from seven days.

Bagaei said the reduced timeframe to two days demonstrates Iran's sincerity in resolving the issue, emphasizing that communications are ongoing with the US through intermediaries, and "everything depends on" whether the US accepts Iran's demands, after which both sides can discuss the next steps.

Since the Middle East war erupted in late February, Iran has claimed control over the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil shipping route, and has attacked vessels attempting to pass without their permission, causing global oil prices to surge significantly.

In September, Iran proposed a seven-day plan for US consideration, stating they would reopen the Strait on the 6th after the US complied with their demands.

Iran's demands include ending all Middle East conflicts—whether in Iran, Gaza Strip, or Lebanon—lifting the US naval blockade on Iranian ports, canceling energy and oil sanctions, and unfreezing Iranian assets abroad.

Iran also calls for the US to reduce its military presence in the region and to recognize new maritime routes through the Strait of Hormuz as agreed with Oman.

Iran's recent move comes as the US and Israel threaten renewed strikes against Iran, with President Donald Trump stating there remain "one or two" targets to "deal with" in Iran, especially around Pickaxe Mountain, believed to house an underground nuclear facility.

Over the past weekend, Iran responded to US threats. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei issued a statement saying, "If the enemy initiates military or terrorist attacks again, the Islamic Republic's army and Iranian nation will determine the timing and conditions to end it."

Khamenei added, "Threats at all levels and in every form must be met with timely, effective, and geographically unlimited responses." He also ordered the military to update strike target lists to cover "all types of assets, both tangible and intangible, of American and Zionist (Israeli) enemies."
