Tragic Helicopter Collision Near Everest Base Camp in Nepal Kills 1 Tourist, Injures Another

Two private company helicopters collided while preparing to land near the Everest base camp in Nepal, resulting in one Indian tourist's death and one New Zealander being injured.

Kaman Singh Tapa, an administrative officer of the Solukhumbu district, told Reuters that two helicopters collided while preparing to land near Everest base camp in Solukhumbu, Nepal. The accident caused one death, an Indian tourist, and one injury, a New Zealander, who has since been rescued from the scene.

Both helicopters belonged to private companies: Fishtail Air and Dynasty Air. Fishtail Air stated in a release that their helicopter was transporting passengers who had been rescued from the Everest area before the accident occurred during landing.

Fishtail Air officials said the passengers on their helicopter were Indian and New Zealand tourists. Dynasty Air officials stated their helicopter was carrying only goods and cargo, with no passengers aboard.

The accident happened during Nepal's busiest trekking and tourism season, when many climbers and tourists visit the Everest region. Helicopters are vital for transporting tourists and climbers in the high mountain areas. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
