This election outcome also opens the possibility for Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic leader in the House, to make history as the first Black Speaker of the House in the U.S. However, he still needs the support of House members in an official vote when the new Congress convenes.
Meanwhile, in the Georgia Senate election, 39-year-old Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff won a second term by defeating Republican Representative Mike Collins, enabling the Democrats to retain a key Senate seat.
This victory is significant for the Democrats since Ossoff was the only Democratic senator defending a seat in a state that Donald Trump won in the 2024 presidential election, making him a major target for Republicans throughout the campaign.
However, Ossoff maintained strong support by openly criticizing Trump's administration and raised more than $100 million in campaign funds—about 3 billion baht—making him a national rising star in the Democratic Party and a potential 2028 presidential candidate.
Mike Collins told supporters on election night that although the results were not what he hoped for, he accepted the outcome and praised Trump as the best president of his lifetime.
