Trump spoke candidly to Fox News, congratulating the Democratic Party on their midterm election victory. He acknowledged the opposition's strong performance after fighting for 11 years to win and insisted the election results do not indicate his defeat.
Trump gave a telephone interview to Fox News on Wednesday, 4 Nov 2020 GMT+7, saying he congratulated the Democrats on their strong performance after striving for 11 years to achieve this victory. He added that he does not view the election outcome as a personal failure.
The U.S. leader claimed his administration's performance over the past two years was among the most outstanding in presidential history, particularly in economic matters and policy. He cited southern border control as an example, saying the border previously had many vulnerabilities, but his administration managed to close illegal entry points within two months, and claimed that no one has crossed the southern border illegally in the past 17 months.
Trump also commented on Europe's situation, noting that while the U.S. is growing and attracting global capital, many European countries, such as France and Italy, are going through difficult times. He expressed concern that some countries might not survive the crises they face.
Nevertheless, this midterm election represents a significant political shift in the U.S. as the Democrats flipped six Senate seats and are likely to gain a majority in the House of Representatives, with more than 10 seats in Congress switching from Republican to Democrat.
The election results also show changes in areas traditionally Republican strongholds, with reports that Texas, Kansas, and South Carolina have elected Democratic senators for the first time in decades. Democrats also flipped seats in North Carolina and Ohio.
An AP Voter Poll indicated that many voters are dissatisfied with high living costs and want Congress to increase its role in checking and balancing presidential power.
