A female crew member was shocked to find a hidden spy camera in the bathroom of a Scoot airplane flying from Japan to Singapore. A 52-year-old British man was arrested after landing at Changi Airport. He faces charges of voyeurism and destroying evidence.
CNA news reported that a 52-year-old British man is being prosecuted in Singapore after being accused of secretly installing a recording camera inside the bathroom on Scoot flight TR821, which traveled from Osaka, Japan, to Singapore.
The man, Hugh Lutley, faces two charges: voyeurism and obstruction of justice by destroying evidence. He deleted related apps and photos from his phone after realizing he was caught. According to the charges, the incident occurred around 17:10 on 7 October while he secretly recorded passengers during private activities.
Singapore police revealed that the suspect hid the camera inside one of the airplane bathrooms and, after leaving the bathroom, remotely activated the recording via an app on his phone.
Later, a female crew member used the bathroom and found the hidden camera. She removed it and immediately informed her colleagues.
Subsequently, Lutley tried to retrieve the camera but discovered it had already been removed. He then quickly deleted the app controlling the camera and erased all related photos from his phone to avoid detection, leading to an additional charge of obstruction of justice.
Upon the plane’s arrival at Singapore’s Changi Airport, authorities detained the man for questioning and seized his phone and camera as evidence.
On 5 November, Lutley appeared in court indicating his intention to plead guilty. He was granted bail of 10,000 Singapore dollars, and the court scheduled a pre-trial hearing on 17 November.
If convicted of voyeurism, he could face up to two years in prison, fines, caning, or a combination of these punishments. The obstruction of justice charge carries a maximum penalty of seven years imprisonment, fines, or both.
