A watchdog group revealed that 77 Peruvian priests have been accused of child abuse and called on religious leaders in Peru to disclose the full list of accused priests before Pope Leo XIV's visit.
On 6 Nov 2026 GMT+7, the U.S.-based Catholic Church abuse watchdog BishopAccountability.org published a database listing 77 Peruvian priests accused of sexually abusing children. The group urged Pope Leo XIV to pressure Catholic Church leaders in Peru to reveal all accused individuals to prevent future abuse.
Anne Barrett Doyle, co-director of BishopAccountability.org, stated at a press conference that disclosure helps victims heal psychologically. She cited examples from the U.S. where bishops and religious leaders have published lists of priests with credible accusations.
This call comes ahead of Pope Leo XIV's first visit to South America from 6-16 November, during which he is scheduled to visit Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru.
