A tense incident unfolded in Dublin, Ireland, when the headquarters of the national broadcaster RTE evacuated staff on Friday after receiving a bomb threat, disrupting live broadcasts and switching to pre-recorded shows instead.
Police officers, accompanied by sniffer dogs, searched the surrounding area and confirmed it was safe with no suspicious items found, allowing staff to return to the building after several hours.
The Irish National Police, An Garda Síochána, stated they coordinated with domestic media organizations and will investigate the bomb threat.
Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin said the threats against RTE and other organizations reflect how disrupting and undermining normal societal life can be easily done through abnormal actions aimed at instilling fear and anxiety among the public.
The Prime Minister also noted that the government will implement heightened security measures next week as Dublin prepares to host the European Political Community meeting and the European Union leaders' summit.
Additionally, the UK-based Sky TV revealed it also received security threats and is working with relevant authorities to ensure the safety of its staff and operations. However, Sky News continues to broadcast normally, with no confirmation yet whether the threats to both media outlets are connected.
