Houthi Group Claims Saudi Arabia Attacked Yemeni City, Killing 25 Including Women and Children

The Houthi rebel group in Yemen claimed that Saudi Arabia attacked a city east of Sanaa, Yemen's capital, resulting in at least 25 deaths, including women and children.

The Houthi group’s Al Masirah television station reported that Saudi Arabia conducted an airstrike on a city east of Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, killing at least 25 people, including women and children. The Saudi-led coalition supporting the Yemeni government has yet to comment.

Al Masirah aired footage showing rescue workers urgently digging through rubble of several buildings in the city of al-Shariyah, carrying out the dead and injured, including young children. The wounded have been taken to a local hospital.

The Saudi-led coalition has neither confirmed nor denied the Houthi reports. However, just hours before the attack in al-Shariyah, the coalition stated it intercepted a missile fired towards Riyadh.

The Houthi-affiliated Saba news agency explicitly blamed Saudi Arabia for the attack. Houthi leader Mehdi al-Mashat declared they would seek revenge for the latest wave of attacks in Yemen.

The long-dormant war in Yemen has flared again, fueled by the Iran-Saudi conflict. The ceasefire began to collapse when Saudi Arabia launched strikes on Sanaa’s airport, controlled by the Houthis, to prevent Iranian planes from landing.

The Iran-backed Houthis responded by targeting multiple airports in Saudi Arabia, including King Khalid Airport in Riyadh, and started attacking Saudi ships in the Red Sea, which serves as an alternative oil export route after Iran blocked the Strait of Hormuz.

The United Nations reports that since the renewed fighting began, over 1,600 people have died and more than 300,000 have been displaced.
