Donald Trump emphasized that it is very unlikely he would order the military to attack Iran again if negotiations on the nuclear program and reopening the Strait of Hormuz continue to make progress.
U.S. President Donald Trump told CNN in a phone interview, saying five times that there is a "very low" chance he would order U.S. forces to launch another attack on Iran as long as discussions on the nuclear program and reopening transport routes through the Strait of Hormuz continue to advance.
Trump stated that it depends on whether Iran agrees to sign a strict deal. He pointed out that Iran is a failing country facing a severe economic crisis with inflation reaching 301%, as well as heavy military attacks that have greatly weakened its capabilities. However, if necessary, the U.S. is prepared to take action.
Trump also revealed that the U.S. has three aircraft carriers deployed in the Middle East and is ready to act immediately if ordered. He said specific Iranian infrastructure targets have been identified, including 38 bridges and power plants, but the U.S. leader does not want to destroy these structures because their restoration would take many years.
The U.S. leader claimed that Iran's air defense systems have been completely destroyed, and its weapons arsenal now has only 10% missile production capacity and 15% drone capacity remaining, as most factories have already been destroyed.
Following last week's U.S. midterm elections, diplomatic activity in the Middle East has picked up again, with President Trump calling Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, to discuss ways to reduce tensions.
Meanwhile, Iran's foreign minister held phone talks with foreign ministers of regional partners and allies, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Pakistan, Kuwait, Jordan, Turkey, Cyprus, and Qatar.
However, the U.S. has increased pressure on Iran by offering a $20 million reward for information on Iran's nuclear program, promising relocation assistance for informants, and establishing a task force to block land routes supplying weapons to Tehran.
