NT Launches New ADC Submarine Cable Connecting 7 Asian Countries to Boost Thailand as ASEAN Digital Hub

After 9 years, NT has launched Thailand's new submarine cable connecting seven countries, meeting the demands of major tech companies and advancing Thailand as ASEAN's digital hub.

Major General Sanpachai Huavanant, President and CEO of the National Telecom Public Company Limited (NT). He said during the official launch of the Asia Direct Cable (ADC) international submarine network on 26 Nov 2025 in Chonburi province that the new submarine cable network, spanning over 9,988 kilometers and connecting key Asian countries including China (Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Guangdong Province), Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, enhances Thailand's telecom infrastructure. This supports increasing usage and strengthens Thailand's role as ASEAN's digital hub.

The project started in 2016 when Mr. Uttama Savanayana served as Minister of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), with a policy to promote Thailand as ASEAN's digital hub and a budget of 5 billion baht. The ADC network is NT's seventh and latest submarine cable, servicing the eastern seaboard and Singapore, beginning at the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). It caters to hyperscale demands from super apps and global tech companies such as Google, Facebook, TikTok, Microsoft, and emerging data centers opening in Thailand.

. Sanpachai said the ADC network is designed to support growth in data and emerging digital technologies including 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), smart cities, and big data. This is enabled through partnerships with leading Asian telecom providers including NT, CTC, CTG, CU, PLDT, Singtel, SoftBank, Viettel, and TATA COMMUNICATIONS.

“Currently, Thailand has about 10 submarine cables (including those by NT and other operators), while Singapore and Malaysia together have about 30 cables supporting digital growth. Eighty percent of Thailand's submarine cables run south, which lacks sufficient resilience; if the south faces issues like flooding, performance immediately declines. Launching the East Coast submarine cable network will balance Thailand’s fundamental telecom infrastructure,” he said.
