SRT Opens Lopburi 2 Station on Dual Track Railway Project to Support Long-Distance Trains with Shuttle Service

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) will officially open "Lopburi 2" station on 5 December 2025 as part of the dual track railway project between Lopburi and Pak Nam Pho. This will support long-distance trains, with a shuttle bus service arranged between Lopburi and Lopburi 2 stations to ease passenger travel during the transition. Meanwhile, Lopburi station will continue to serve suburban, local, and freight trains as usual. Train schedules on the Northern Line will also be adjusted to align with the new station's opening and current train times.

Mr. Anan Phonnimdaeng, Deputy Governor of the State Railway of Thailand, acting as Governor of SRT, revealed that construction of the Northern dual track railway segment from Lopburi to Pak Nam Pho has been completed. SRT has therefore scheduled the opening of "Lopburi 2" station in Tha Wung district, Lopburi province. This elevated station is the only one in the project designed to bypass Lopburi city, avoiding impact on important historic sites such as Phra Prang Sam Yot and San Phra Kan. It is located about 12 kilometers from the original Lopburi station and will serve long-distance trains, including 14 special express, express, and rapid trains originating or terminating at Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal. The station will officially open on 5 December 2025, with revised Northern Line train schedules to correspond with the station's opening and current timings.

At the same time, SRT has implemented additional measures to assist passengers during this transition period by providing free shuttle bus services between Lopburi and Lopburi 2 stations for passengers of special express, express, and rapid trains originating or terminating at Lopburi 2. For outbound trains, buses will depart Lopburi station 30 minutes before train departure. For inbound trains, buses will pick up passengers according to the train arrival schedule at Lopburi 2 station. This service will run from 5 December 2025 to 5 March 2026.

Mr. Anan added that Lopburi 2 station is an elevated station spanning 19 kilometers between Ban Klap and Khok Krathiam stations (with Khok Krathiam planned as a future junction). The station is a large three-story building: the ground floor is for parking and passenger drop-off and pick-up; the second floor houses ticket counters and passenger areas leading to the platforms; and the third floor is the train platform level. Facilities include elevators, stairways, restrooms, and luggage storage rooms (though there is no baggage handling service).

Meanwhile, the original Lopburi station will continue to serve 13 daily ordinary, suburban, and local train services as before, including freight trains.

Additionally, passengers can check real-time train schedules and locations through the Train Tracking System (TTS), enabling accurate and confident travel planning from start to finish.
