His Majesty the King Grants the Name Wiwat Nakhon to the Pink Line MRT

Reporters noted that the Ministry of Transport, through the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), has developed the Pink Line MRT project from Khae Rai to Min Buri and its extension from Sri Ratch to Muang Thong Thani. This single-rail monorail system serves as a feeder transit, enhancing connectivity and expanding the mass transit network coverage in Bangkok and its surrounding areas. The Pink Line MRT from Khae Rai to Min Buri officially opened to the public on 31 December 2023, followed by the extension from Sri Ratch to Muang Thong Thani, which opened on 17 June 2025.

In this regard, His Majesty the King graciously bestowed the name “Wiwat Nakhon” (pronounced Wi-wat-na-kon) on the Pink Line MRT route, meaning “City Development.” This honor brings great joy and auspiciousness to the Ministry of Transport, MRTA, and the public using the train service. The Ministry of Transport and MRTA are committed to developing rail transport infrastructure to be comprehensive and convenient, in accordance with His Majesty’s royal intention to sustain, preserve, and advance the public’s welfare in transportation and public transit services.

The Wiwat Nakhon MRT Pink Line extends 37.5 kilometers as an elevated structure along its entire route, serving 32 stations. It operates daily from 06:00 to 24:00. Along the line, there are transfer points to four main transit lines: Nonthaburi Civic Center station connects to the Purple Line MRT; Lak Si station connects to the Red Line suburban train; Wat Phra Sri Mahathat station connects to the Green Line (Sukhumvit); and Min Buri station connects to the Orange Line project (Thailand Cultural Centre – Min Buri, Suwinthawong). Additionally, motorists can park at the park-and-ride facility at Min Buri station to transfer to the mass transit system. This facility operates daily from 05:00 to 02:00. For more information, please visit MRTA's website at www.mrta.co.th, their official Facebook page, or contact the MRTA Call Center at 0 2716 4044 – "a leading organization driving mass rapid transit systems to enhance travel efficiency and improve citizens’ quality of life."
