Phiphat supports the MOU between the Land Transport Department and the Department of Highways to connect government data, aiming to help solve crime issues, vehicle theft, illegal vehicles, and traffic problems. The goal is to upgrade public services to be more convenient and safe, supporting Thailand's transition to digital transportation.
Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, said after chairing the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for data integration to support operations between the Land Transport Department (DLT) and the Department of Highways (DOH) that the MOU aims to enable immediate information sharing between the two agencies. This will allow both agencies to use each other's data to serve the public and operators more rapidly, reducing service steps. Examples include vehicle registration information, license issuance, traffic conditions, accident occurrences on routes, and road repairs.
. Mr. Sorapong Paitoonpong, Director-General of the Land Transport Department (DLT), said that cooperation with the Department of Highways means the DLT will provide data on vehicle registration, driver licenses, transport operator information, and coordinates from the DLT GPS system to support monitoring, inspection, and enforcement against transport and highway law violations. Additionally, the DLT will use data from the DOH to develop its mapping system to support freight transport, passenger transport, and policy-making to reduce road accidents.
. Mr. Piyapong Chiwattanakulpaisan, Director-General of the Department of Highways (DOH), said this collaboration marks an important step in upgrading the management of transportation and road safety in the country. The DOH will provide data on overweight truck enforcement, location coordinates of vehicle weight stations, route and bridge registration data, coordinates of assets within highway areas, highway statistics, and accident data from the Department’s geographic information system (DOH One Map) to support the DLT's mission.
At the same time, the DOH will apply data from the DLT such as vehicle registration, driver information, vehicle movement data, and GPS system data to analyze traffic conditions, monitor driving behavior, detect and prevent law violations, and plan highway network development aligned with actual use. This will also support government digital transformation and big data utilization for more precise management.
