
Anan Phonimdaeng, Deputy Governor of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) acting as Governor, revealed after the SRT board meeting that the board approved awarding the contract to UT Joint Venture to construct the Light Red Line commuter train extension from Siriraj through Taling Chan to Salaya, including three additional stations (Rama 6 Bridge Station, Bang Kruai-EGAT Station, and Ban Chim Phli Station), with a total contract value of 14.72 billion baht. Additionally, the board approved awarding the contract to Unic Engineering and Construction Public Company Limited to construct the Dark Red Line commuter train project from Rangsit to Thammasat University Rangsit Campus at a contract value of 6.057 billion baht. The contract signing is expected by February 2026.
The construction bidding for the Light Red Line extension project from Siriraj through Taling Chan to Salaya, including three additional stations (Rama 6 Bridge Station, Bang Kruai-EGAT Station, and Ban Chim Phli Station).
The project covers a distance of 20.50 kilometers, with 13.83 kilometers at ground level and 6.67 kilometers elevated, featuring stations totaling
nine stations, including Siriraj, Bang Khun Non, Taling Chan Floating Market, Rama 6 Bridge, Bang Kruai-EGAT, Ban Chim Phli, Kanchanaphisek, Salathammasop, and Salaya. The construction area on the left side of the railway primarily uses railway land without land expropriation. The electronic bidding (e-bidding) committee conducted a selection process with companies that met all qualification and technical criteria precisely as specified in the bidding documents.
The lowest bid was submitted by UT Joint Venture (comprising 1. Unic Engineering and Construction Public Company Limited as the lead firm and 2. Trusty Construction Company Limited) at 14,720,000,000 baht (fourteen billion seven hundred twenty million baht), including value-added tax, which is 9,700,000 baht (nine million seven hundred thousand baht) below the reference price of 14,729,700,000 baht (fourteen billion seven hundred twenty-nine million seven hundred thousand baht). The Special Projects and Construction Department reported the bidding results to the SRT board for approval to award the contract to UT Joint Venture to undertake the construction of this project.
For the Light Red Line commuter train extension project from Siriraj through Taling Chan to Salaya, including three additional stations, the SRT issued an electronic bidding invitation on 26 November 2025 GMT+7. Four bidders submitted documents and price proposals:
1. UT Joint Venture
2. Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction Public Company Limited
3. CH. Karnchang Public Company Limited
4. Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited
Regarding the Dark Red Line commuter train project from Rangsit to Thammasat University Rangsit Campus, the route covers 8.84 kilometers with ground-level structures and four stations: Khlong Nueng, Bangkok University, Chiang Rak, and Thammasat University Rangsit Campus. The construction area on the right side of the railway primarily uses railway land with about 14 rai of land expropriation for building the stations and access roads. The electronic bidding committee selected bidders who met all qualification and technical criteria outlined in the bidding documents. The lowest bid was submitted by Unic Engineering and Construction Public Company Limited at 6,057,000,000 baht (six billion fifty-seven million baht), including VAT, which is 7,960,000 baht (seven million nine hundred sixty thousand baht) below the reference price of 6,064,960,000 baht (six billion sixty-four million nine hundred sixty thousand baht). The Special Projects and Construction Department reported the bidding results to the SRT board to approve awarding the contract to Unic Engineering and Construction Public Company Limited for the project.
The SRT issued the electronic bidding invitation on 26 November 2025 GMT+7, with five bidders submitting documents and proposals:

2. Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction Public Company Limited
3. CH. Karnchang Public Company Limited
4. Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited
5. A.S. Associates Engineering (1964) Company Limited
Next, the SRT will review the contract drafts for both projects. Once finalized, SRT will sign construction contracts with the contractors. The construction period is set for 36 months (3 years). Upon completion, the Red Line commuter train system will offer convenient, economical, and safe travel, helping to alleviate traffic congestion, reduce domestic energy consumption, and facilitate easier connectivity to other public mass transit systems.
