Bangkok Council Approves 4 Billion Baht Budget for Operation and Maintenance of Green Line Extension

The Bangkok Metropolitan Council approved a 4 billion baht budget to cover operation and maintenance costs for the Green Line extension phases 1 and 2, covering payments from November 2025 to July 2026.

On 4 February 2026, at the Bangkok Metropolitan Council meeting held in the council chamber of the Arawat Phatthana Building, Bangkok City Hall, Din Daeng, the council considered a draft Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Act regarding supplementary budget expenditures for fiscal year 2026 (unnumbered version) for second and third readings, after the special committee had completed its review.

Mr. Napapol Jeerakul, Bangkok Metropolitan Council member for Bangkok Noi district, acting as chairman of the special committee, reported on the review. Following the council meeting on 28 January 2026, the council resolved to establish the special committee to consider the draft supplementary budget act for fiscal year 2026 (unnumbered version). The committee met three times with no amendments proposed. The draft act requested a total budget of 4,009,144,300 baht, classified as special expenditure, to be paid from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's accumulated reserves. The committee heard the reasons and necessity for the supplementary budget requests from the agencies involved. The special committee unanimously approved the budget with no members reserving opinions for further debate at the council.

The council resolved to approve the act for promulgation. The Bangkok Metropolitan Council chairman must submit the draft act to the Bangkok Governor for signature within seven days.
