The Department of Rail Transport visited Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Station to monitor overall rail transport services, expressing confidence that Thai voters returning home for the 8 February election will not face train delays and will experience convenient travel connections.
Mr. Pichet Kunathamrak, Director-General of the Department of Rail Transport (DRT). He revealed that the Department of Rail Transport has inspected Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Station to review and monitor overall rail transport services, including long-distance trains operated by the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and urban rail transit within Bangkok and its metropolitan area. This was done to prepare for citizens traveling back to their hometowns to vote in the general election and referendum on Sunday, 8 February 2026. The DRT recognizes the importance of facilitating citizens during this critical time and has taken proactive measures by coordinating with related agencies.
For long-distance intercity trains, the DRT coordinated with the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) to add 1-2 additional carriages or fill the locomotive capacity on routes with high passenger demand to ensure sufficient capacity and avoid passenger backlogs both outbound (6-7 February 2026) and return trips (8 February 2026). They also inspected locomotives and wheels to ensure operational readiness and checked train routes for maximum safety.
Regarding transport connectivity, the DRT coordinated with all urban rail operators to prepare for smooth transfers to key public transport hubs, including Bangkok Bus Terminals (Chatuchak and Ekkamai) and major airports such as Don Mueang Airport (served by the Red Line commuter train) and Suvarnabhumi Airport (served by the Airport Rail Link). They also plan to support travel to major rallies near Bangkok metro stations this evening (6 February 2026) and the election day (8 February 2026) by increasing train frequency and considering additional train services to accommodate citizens traveling both within and outside Bangkok metropolitan area.
Mr. Pichet concluded that the Department of Rail Transport is ready to assist citizens in traveling home conveniently, quickly, and safely to perform their civic duty. He urged all eligible voters to participate in the general election and referendum on Sunday, 8 February 2026, together.
