DE Ministry Reports Over 864 Million Fake News Alerts, Plans to Use AI to Combat Scammers

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE) revealed it has issued over 864 million fake news alerts and aims to use AI to scan for false news to help reduce the impact on the public from scammers.

Mr. Patchara Anantasillp, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE), disclosed that Thailand’s Anti Fake News Center (AFNC) under the DE Ministry has collaborated with over 300 partner agencies from government, private sector, associations, and civil society to address and prevent fake news problems. Fake news serves as a channel for online crimes with wide-ranging impacts, so it is essential to promptly clarify facts to the public before they fall victim to malicious actors.

Meanwhile, AFNC has signed a memorandum of understanding to issue online scam and fake news alerts to the public via the “Pao Tang” application since December 2022. In 2023, the alerts were accessed an average of 22.25 million times per month; in 2024, 23.50 million times per month; and in 2025, 24.25 million times per month. Across all platforms, AFNC’s alerts have reached over 864 million views.

Currently, the public follows and verifies information from the Anti Fake News Center through various channels as follows:

This partnership establishes a mechanism to verify and confirm news accuracy based on government sources as the primary reference, supporting prevention and mitigation of fake news and misinformation impacts, while fostering public participation in disaster preparedness and response efficiently and sustainably through digital channels.

"The DE Ministry prioritizes data management and is committed to providing the public with timely and accurate information. In the future, AI will be employed to assist in verifying fake, distorted, and true news. We will accelerate efforts to maximize impact in disseminating alerts about online scams and financial frauds swiftly and responsively to reduce losses suffered by victims targeted by criminals using social media and the internet as tools to deceive the public," said Mr. Patchara.
