Chinese New Year 2026: Surge of 30,000 Chinese Tourists per Day to Thailand, TAT Welcomes with Lucky Orange Bags

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is pleased as Chinese tourist arrivals to Thailand reach 30,000 per day, organizing welcoming activities to celebrate the 2026 Chinese New Year festival in the country.

Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaiboon, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). She revealed that on 17 Feb, TAT held a welcoming event for Chinese tourists, presenting souvenirs to those arriving on Thai Airways flight TG 663 and Spring Airlines flight 9C7421 from Shanghai to Thailand at Suvarnabhumi Airport to create a memorable impression, express warm friendship, and strengthen the long-standing relationship between Thailand and China.

From 1 Jan to 15 Feb 2026, a total of 770,427 tourists from the People's Republic of China entered Thailand. As the Chinese New Year period approached, the number of Chinese tourists entering Thailand showed a positive trend, reaching 30,000 per day. TAT anticipates approximately 241,000 Chinese tourists will visit Thailand during the Chinese New Year festival from 13 to 22 Feb 2026.

The TAT Governor stated that during the Chinese New Year festival, TAT has continuously boosted the Chinese tourist market under the campaign Zhong Tai Yi Jia Xin, running from January to March 2026. All five TAT offices in China have conducted promotional activities with partners, including travel operators and leading online travel agencies (OTAs) such as Qunar.com, Tongcheng, Fliggy, Klook, Tuniu, Guangzhou Comfort, and 6renyou. They have created special airline and hotel packages under the Holiday Air-Tel Scheme. TAT has also partnered with Thai Airways and King Power to offer exclusive discounts on products and services at King Power stores to tourists flying with Thai Airways, aiming to attract more Chinese tourists during the long Chinese New Year holiday.

Additionally, TAT continues to stimulate the market by collaborating with partners to conduct promotional activities throughout all holiday periods, including Qingming Festival, Labor Day, summer school breaks, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day. These efforts target diverse tourist segments such as multi-generational families, Gen Z, and corporate employees. Alongside this, TAT produces content to build confidence and promote Thai tourism products under various themes every month through well-known Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and influencers in the Chinese market to achieve its tourist arrival targets.

The welcoming event for Chinese tourists was organized to celebrate the 2026 Chinese New Year. TAT prepared lucky orange bags containing Thai honey tangerines, symbolizing the four seasons and conveying wishes for continuous good fortune and success. In addition, gift cards worth over 8,000 baht from Siam Piwat and souvenirs from SRICHAND were presented to tourists arriving on Thai Airways flight TG 663 and Spring Airlines flight 9C7421 from Shanghai to Thailand. This was to leave a strong positive impression and build confidence in traveling to Thailand through warm welcomes and assistance at every step—from arrival and accommodation to delivering meaningful travel experiences—further strengthening trust in Thailand as a travel destination.
