Government Lottery Office Clarifies 2D Barcode and Barcode Marks Are Only for Detecting Fake Tickets

The Government Lottery Office clarifies that the 2D barcode and barcode marks on lottery tickets are intended solely to detect counterfeit tickets and cannot verify who purchased or holds the ticket.

18 Feb 2026 GMT+7 Lieutenant Colonel Noon Sansanakom, Director of the Government Lottery Office, revealed that currently the six-digit 2D barcode and barcode marks on official lottery tickets are designed to prevent counterfeiting. They allow buyers to preliminarily verify whether each ticket's data set, such as the draw date, ticket number, set, and book, matches what is printed on the ticket. These marks also help buyers or prize claimants quickly verify ticket numbers via applications like GLO LOTTERY OFFICIAL.

However, these 2D barcode and barcode marks cannot identify who purchased or owns the ticket. Buyers can prove ownership by signing their name, surname, and phone number on the back of the ticket, as well as taking photos of both sides of the signed ticket for safekeeping. They should also remember the ticket number, set number, and draw date to report in case of loss or to request a freeze with the Government Lottery Office. Prize claimants must sign or fingerprint the ticket as evidence.

“Scanning the 2D barcode and barcode on the ticket is just one of several methods to verify whether a six-digit official lottery ticket is counterfeit. Buyers can also check physical features such as paper texture, anti-copy ink, and watermarks, as recommended by the Government Lottery Office on its website.www.glo.or.thcomprehensively.”
