Department of Land Transport Launches “Taxi Dee Prom” with QR Code Scanning via App to Check Driver Records and File Real-Time Complaints

The Department of Land Transport has kicked off the system"Taxi Dee Prom"that scans QR code stickers via the DLT GPS NOTICE app—the only system of its kind worldwide—to instantly verify driver information, check fares, submit real-time complaints, and assess satisfaction. Over 8,100 taxis have been stickered so far, with full installation of 78,000 expected by June. The project will be evaluated after six months and may expand to other public transport. Taxi drivers who fail to scan and verify their identity face a 1,000 baht fine and potential license review.

Mr. Sorapong Paitoonpong, Director-General of the Department of Land Transport (DLT), revealed that the DLT has launched the "Taxi Dee Prom" project, developing an IT system to enhance the safety and modernity of public taxi services to meet passenger needs in the digital age. This system verifies driver identity and allows complaint submission via the DLT GPS NOTICE app. The core of Taxi Dee Prom is to build passenger confidence by linking "drivers" and "passengers" through new QR code stickers piloted in Bangkok and surrounding areas.

This"Taxi Dee Prom"project uses QR code stickers, a world-first initiative costing about 1.9 million baht. Currently, there are 78,894 registered taxis (including 6,400 electric taxis). So far, 8,132 taxis have stickers, averaging about 500 installations daily. Full installation and operation are expected by June 2026. After six months, the project will be reassessed for improvements, with plans to make QR codes permanent and further develop the app. Expansion to other public transport modes like motorcycle taxis, tuk-tuks, and buses is also under consideration. The applicationwill also be developed, along with evaluating expansion to other public transport such as motorcycle taxis, tuk-tuks, and buses.

Mr. Sorapong added that the DLT will provide the QR code stickers free of charge, divided into three colors: 1. Purple for taxi drivers to verify identity before driving, placed on the upper right corner of the driver’s side windshield. Drivers must register via the DLT GPS NOTICE app and scan the vehicle’s QR code before starting service to confirm they are the actual driver during that period. The system will prompt identity verification every four hours.

If a driver fails to register or scan to verify identity before driving, they will be penalized under the DLT announcement regarding the use of the “DLT GPS-NOTICE” app on communication devices with vehicle tracking technology, which substitutes for travel data recorders for passenger vehicles not exceeding seven seats, B.E. 2568 (2025). The offense involves not recording or transmitting travel data as required, punishable by a maximum fine of 1,000 baht under the Motor Vehicle Act B.E. 2522 (1979). Multiple failures to verify identity may lead to license review.Travel datarecording violations under the Motor Vehicle Act with fines up to 1,000 baht and possible license review for repeated offenses.

2. Blue for taxi passengers to check vehicle and driver information, estimate fares, rate satisfaction across four areas—cleanliness, service, driving etiquette, and appearance—and file complaints. The sticker is placed on the rear passenger-side window. In the future, drivers consistently rated five stars may receive rewards such as insurance premium discounts. 3. Red for passengers to submit complaints about driving behavior and service, such as passenger refusals or overcharging, placed on the exterior passenger-side window.Examples include refusing passengersor overcharging fares, with the sticker placed on the outside passenger-side window.

Mr. Sorapong further said that taxi passengers can download the DLT GPS NOTICE app and scan QR codes located on the vehicle’s windows (both inside and outside) to verify vehicle and driver information. The system displays the driver's photo, full name, vehicle details, tax expiration date, and driving license status, confirming the taxi’s legality. Passengers can estimate fares, rate satisfaction, and submit complaints instantly in real time. If problems like reckless driving or rude language occur, the data is sent directly to the DLT system.

He urged taxi operators, cooperatives, and drivers to apply the QR code stickers under the Taxi Dee Prom project, register, and verify their identity before driving. Removing or not displaying the QR code sticker is considered non-compliance with DLT regulations and punishable under the Motor Vehicle Act B.E. 2522 with fines up to 1,000 baht.QR Codesticker removal or absence is a violation subject to fines up to 1,000 baht under the Motor Vehicle Act.

The “Taxi Dee Prom” system on the DLT GPS NOTICE app offers passengers protection and peace of mind by enabling real driver identity verification. It also encourages operators and drivers to maintain service quality to earn positive passenger ratings. The DLT invites the public to download the DLT GPS NOTICE app, available on iOS and Android, to help establish a new standard for safe, reliable taxi services in Thailand.
