"Just enter your phone number to instantly know your loan limit"—a short phrase that sounds convenient and easy but may be the starting point of an unnoticed scam. Currently, scammers use social media platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, or various websites to advertise loans, with enticing messages like "Fast approval, no credit check, high loan limits." Simply by entering a phone number or adding a Line contact for private chat, the approval result is immediately communicated.
In reality, scammers’ main goal is to obtain "contact information," especially phone numbers, to call back offering urgent loans. They pressure victims to decide quickly and demand advance payments labeled as fees, deposits, processing charges, or insurance. After victims transfer money, they never receive the promised loan.
Some borrowers request 5,000 baht but receive only 2,000 baht with interest rates exceeding legal limits. Worse, personal data may be used without consent to apply for loans on other applications.
Before deciding to borrow money, carefully verify the source for safety and added confidence. The public should check whether the provider is legally authorized via the “Loan App Check” service available on the Bank of Thailand’s website.
"Legal loans do not require advance payments before approval." Therefore, do not transfer money in advance or share personal information with untrustworthy lenders. A little caution can prevent significant financial and personal data damage. If affected by scams, people can report to the AOC 1441 center available 24/7. For suspicious activities, contact GCC 1111 anytime to provide leads. This message is brought to you with good intentions from the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society.
