
Mr. Surasak Phanjaroenworakul, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, revealed that due to the ongoing conflict in Iran and other Middle Eastern countries, which threatens the safety of Thai students and personnel studying, interning, researching, or training in those areas and neighboring countries, the Ministry has ordered all higher education institutions and affiliated agencies to urgently verify and report the number of students and staff residing in these risk areas.
The minister stated that according to the latest information coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Middle East Division), there are currently Thai students residing in various Middle Eastern countries as follows: Iran 180, Israel 56, Jordan 360, Egypt 3,400, Saudi Arabia 425, Yemen 120, and Iraq 10.
The Ministry of Higher Education has instructed institutions to closely coordinate with students and personnel on the ground, continuously monitor the situation, and collaborate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Thai embassies in each country to prepare safety measures and contingency plans for potential evacuation or return to Thailand.
"Currently, the Ministry is compiling up-to-date data from all higher education institutions to assess the situation and provide timely assistance. Should the conflict intensify or spread to other countries in the region, the Ministry is ready to implement emergency plans immediately, prioritizing the safety of students and personnel," Mr. Surasak said.
