Chaiyachon Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society (DE), stated that amid concerns over the situation in the Middle East potentially affecting international communication networks, he has instructed affiliated agencies to prepare, coordinate with relevant organizations to assess the situation, and develop emergency response plans. This especially involves the National Telecom Public Company Limited (NT), the country's main telecommunications network provider.
Currently, NT has prepared its international internet network and Internet Gateway connection points in multiple regions such as Singapore, Hong Kong, the United States, and Europe, utilizing both Transit and Peering forms. These connections extend from Thailand via land and undersea through six underwater cable systems co-invested by NT. There are backup systems capable of efficiently supporting usage and mitigating risks from potential incidents. If underwater cables in the Middle East region experience disruptions, traffic can be rerouted to other connection points to ensure continuous service. The public can be confident that Thailand's internet remains stable, with ongoing 24-hour monitoring.
"NT has prepared risk assessment reports on potential impacts if the Middle East underwater cable system encounters issues, along with contingency plans for business continuity management. They have devised plans to evaluate the severity of situations at various levels, coordinating integrally to secure Thailand’s telecommunications system. Measures to strengthen and prepare the network are being enhanced to prevent any impact on the public and the country's business sector," said Chaiyachon.
