Mr. Attawit Rakjamroon, Managing Director of the Transport Company Limited (BorKorSor), announced that they have held a meeting to plan bus operations during the Songkran Festival 2026. This is to prepare public bus services across various routes nationwide to accommodate the large number of people traveling back to their hometowns and for tourism.
During the Songkran Festival 2026, from 9 to 19 April, a total of 10 days, BorKorSor expects passenger numbers to increase by about 10% compared to Songkran 2025. For outbound trips from 9 to 12 April, daily passengers are projected between 160,000 and 180,000, using 7,000 bus trips per day (company and partner buses). For return trips from 16 to 19 April, about 120,000 passengers per day are expected, with 6,000 bus trips daily. Additionally, 1,200 non-regular route buses (with registration code 30) will be available as extra services to meet demand and prevent passengers from being left behind.
Passengers who have pre-booked tickets with BorKorSor for regular and extra trips on northern and northeastern (Isan) routes departing from 6:00 p.m. onwards between 9 and 12 April should board buses at the Bangkok Central Bus Terminal (Ekkamai) Gate 2. They can conveniently reach the terminal via the Blue Line MRT, Red Line train, buses, or taxis, facilitating quick and easy access to BorKorSor buses while reducing congestion.Congestioninside the bus terminal. Passengers are advised to check their boarding points indicated on their tickets and allow at least one hour to get to the boarding area to ensure a smooth and timely journey.
For passengers purchasing BorKorSor extra trip tickets on the day of travel between 5:00 a.m. and midnight, buses will depart from Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal, platforms 1 to 17.
BorKorSor has instructed all relevant units to supervise bus operations, bus terminals, and staff according to safety measures. They will check the readiness of buses and equipment before service. Drivers must have adequate rest, undergo drug and alcohol tests confirming zero alcohol, and two drivers will be assigned on routes exceeding six hours to rotate driving duties. Speed limits will be enforced at no more than 90 kilometers per hour as required by law, ensuring passenger safety throughout the Songkran holiday period.
Regarding the impact of rising fuel prices leading to fare increases, BorKorSor will maintain current public bus fares until 19 April 2026 to alleviate financial burdens on the public during Songkran 2026, in line with the Ministry of Transport’s policy.
