Transport Company Confirms Fare Freeze Until 19 Apr Deploys Over 7,000 Buses for Songkran 2026, Guarantees No Stranded Passengers

The Transport Company has prepared over 7,700 buses to handle the Songkran 2026 travel season, confidently accommodating up to 180,000 passengers daily. It assures no passengers will be left stranded and has ordered strict control over operators to prohibit fake ticket sales and passenger abandonment. Fare prices will remain fixed until 19 Apr, before increasing in line with fuel cost rises on 20 Apr.

Mr. Atthawit Rakjamroon, President of The Transport Company Limited (Transport Co.) He revealed preparations to facilitate the public traveling home during Songkran 2026, following the Ministry of Transport's policy. He confirmed that Transport Co. has arranged sufficient buses to prevent passenger backlog problems.

Deploying over 7,700 buses to handle the massive Songkran 2026 homecoming crowd.

Transport Co. has coordinated with operators to arrange bus services for the public, consisting of:

  • More than 500 new company buses and rental vehicles.
  • Approximately 6,000 joint-service buses.
  • About 1,200 non-scheduled buses (registered under license plate series 30) or supplemental buses.

It is forecasted that during the outbound period (9–12 April 2026), there will be 160,000 to 180,000 passengers traveling daily, using 7,000 to 8,000 bus trips per day. For the return period, (16–19 April 2026) it is expected that 120,000 passengers will travel daily, with 6,000 bus trips per day.

Strict safety measures and warnings against joint operators selling fake tickets.

Beyond preparing sufficient buses, Transport Co. emphasizes maximum safety. Both buses and drivers must be fully ready before departure. The company has instructed itself and joint operators to strictly prohibit exploitation of passengers, especially issues such as selling fake tickets, overpricing, overloading beyond seating capacity, and abandoning passengers en route. If operators violate these rules, they will face immediate action under transportation regulations to ensure fair service standards.

Fare prices frozen until 19 Apr before adjustment based on fuel costs.

Regarding joint operators' requests for fare assistance due to rising fuel prices, Mr. Atthawit said Transport Co. and the Department of Land Transport have discussed solutions to alleviate living costs for the public and enable operators to continue business.

It was initially agreed that subsidies would compensate joint operators who maintain current fares from 6 to 19 April 2026, funded by the Road Safety Fund (RSF). After that, from 20 April 2026 onward, fares will be adjusted upward according to the Central Land Transport Control Board's resolution to reflect actual fuel cost increases.

Passengers advised to plan travel time and buy tickets at stations.

“This Songkran, the public can be confident that Transport Co. has prepared buses to accommodate all. Those with advance bookings are guaranteed service. For those without tickets, please plan your travel and allow extra time; tickets can be purchased at station counters on the travel day. Transport Co. will manage to ensure everyone reaches their destination safely,” Mr. Atthawit concluded.
