
Suvarnabhumi Airport is fully prepared to handle the surge of passengers during the 2026 Songkran festival, expecting over 1.82 million travelers. It will add 130 special flights, highlight biometric technology to reduce congestion, and offer a five-day free parking gift to facilitate the public.
Mr. Kittipong Kittikhajorn, Director of Suvarnabhumi Airport at Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT). He revealed preparations for the 2026 Songkran festival from 10 to 19 April (10 days), forecasting approximately 1,820,000 passengers passing through AOT, averaging 182,000 daily, a slight 1.9% decrease from last year.
Regarding flights, there are expected to be 11,000 total flights, averaging 1,100 daily, a 4.6% increase from the same period last year. Nine airlines have requested additional special and charter flights, totaling 130. The top three airlines requesting the most additional flights are AIR MACAU, Bangkok Airways, and Thai Vietjet Air.
To accommodate the dense passenger volume, AOT has encouraged travelers to use technology and innovations to shorten wait times, including:
For inbound and outbound travel, AOT has arranged sufficient public transport options, including taxis, limousines, public buses, and the Airport Rail Link. Coordination has increased vehicle numbers during peak hours and integrated with related agencies to conduct random vehicle and driver inspections, including alcohol and drug testing, to ensure maximum safety.
Additionally, to ease public expenses, AOT is waiving parking fees at the long-term parking zone C for five days from 00:01 on Saturday, 11 April 2026, until 24:00 on Wednesday, 15 April 2026. A shuttle bus service runs every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day, between the parking lot and passenger terminals.
