Emphasizing the importance of the Social Security Board election, highlighting its impact on determining various benefits including social security fund money, unemployment benefits, old-age pensions, maternity benefits, and medical care rights.
On 9 Apr, reporters reported that the Social Security Office (SSO) issued a public announcement to underscore the importance of the Social Security Board election, which is expected to take place by July 2026. The SSO stated that the Social Security Board is a key mechanism for directing the management of the social security fund, as it provides an opportunity for insured persons and employers to directly participate in electing representatives who will set policies, manage, and oversee the fund transparently, fairly, and in line with the real needs of the insured. Elected board members act as representatives of stakeholders, reflecting the voices and proposals of insured persons into policy-level decision-making.
Participation through this election is crucial for defining benefits across all aspects of the social security system, including illness, childbirth, disability, death, child support, old age, and unemployment—each a vital guarantee for the livelihood of insured persons. Furthermore, the election process reflects principles of transparency, equality, and inclusivity, allowing employers and insured individuals of all ages, including persons with disabilities and disadvantaged groups, to play an equal role in the democratic process within the social security system.
This Social Security Board election is conducted under the Ministry of Labor’s regulations on the criteria and procedures for electing employer and insured representatives as Social Security Board members, B.E. 2564 (2021). Insured persons and employers each have the right to vote for up to seven representatives in a direct and secret ballot, ensuring the selection of representatives who genuinely reflect their needs and strengthening the social security system in the long term.
