
Free MRT rides for Songkran 2026 The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) is spreading joy for Songkran and National Senior Citizens Day 2026 by announcing free MRT rides on all four lines for those aged 60 and above from 13 to 15 April 2026. This aims to promote family values and energy-saving measures, while implementing top-level safety protocols, including a strict ban on water guns loaded with water inside trains.
Mr. Kajphajon Udomthampakdi, Governor of the MRTA, stated that to support the Ministry of Transport’s policy for convenient and safe travel during Songkran 2026, the MRTA and concessionaires have launched a campaign gifting National Senior Citizens Day by waiving fares on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system, or " Free MRT rides during Songkran 2026 " on all four lines, which include
Passengers aged 60 and above can claimthe benefitfrom 13 to 15 April 2026 during operating hours by simply presentingtheir “national ID card”to staff at the ticketing office in any MRT station to receive a coupon or free ticket (limited toone benefitper person only).
To accommodate the expected surge of passengers, especially at transfer stations and Songkran water play areas, the MRTA has prepared on multiple fronts, including:
Additional trains Deploying extra trains immediately when passenger volume is high
Increased staff deployment Station staff, security personnel, and MRTA rescue teams will intensify patrols and assist passengers
Upgraded security Bomb disposal and detection teams (EOD) and police K-9 units will be on duty throughout operating hours, supported by the Pasutha radio center monitoring CCTV 24/7.
For the safety of all users, MRT requests passengers to cooperate with baggage checks and“strictly prohibits bringing water, water tanks, or water guns loaded with water into the MRT system.”
