BKS summarized travel during the 2026 Songkran festival over 7 days, serving more than 850,000 passengers with 47,000 bus trips. The service was convenient, safe, sufficient, and without delays or backlogs.
Mr. Atthawit Rakjamroon, President and CEO of The Transport Company Limited (BKS), shared data on public travel during the 2026 Songkran Festival from 9 to 15 April 2026, a total of 7 days. There were 859,247 passengers (round trips) using 47,596 bus trips (company and partner buses). Outbound trips carried 460,762 passengers on 24,063 trips, while return trips carried 398,485 passengers on 23,533 trips. The majority traveled to provinces in the Northeast region (Isan), followed by the North and South regions.
Regarding outbound travel from Bangkok during Songkran 2026, the busiest day was 11 April with 151,593 passengers traveling outbound and inbound, using 7,745 bus trips (company and partner buses). For return trips to Bangkok, the peak day was 15 April with 119,957 passengers on 7,059 bus trips (company and partner buses).
This morning (16 April 2026) at Bangkok Bus Terminal (Chatuchak) or Mo Chit 2, from 05:00 to 07:00, passengers gradually returned to Bangkok continuously but without congestion. The terminal was cleared by 07:00 due to passengers using taxis and the recommendation to use free shuttle buses running between the terminal Mo Chit 2 and BTS stations.
The free shuttle bus service runs from Mo Chit to Krungthep Aphiwat Central Terminal (Gate 2) from today until 20 April 2026, between 04:00 and 07:00 at parking bays 17-20 on the inbound platform. Additionally, buses operated by the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) and electric buses by Thai Smile Bus Company Limited (TSB) serve passengers at Mo Chit 2, connecting to 22 routes to facilitate travel and help disperse passengers from the bus terminal to main public transit hubs.
However, between 16 and 19 April 2026, it is expected that about 100,000 to 120,000 passengers per day will gradually return after celebrating Songkran 2026, with an average of 6,000 to 7,000 bus trips daily (company and partner buses). BKS has arranged sufficient buses and managed schedules to meet passenger demand.
