Thailand Helps Thailand Phase 2 Launches: Shop Affordable Products via Popular Apps to Ease Living Costs

Thailand Helps Thailand Phase 2 starts today, selling products house brand through online channels with promotions including free delivery within 5 kilometers and special discount coupons of 20-25%. Phase 3 will proceed by bringing consumer goods from 2,000 SME producers to sell via platforms, negotiating with platforms to waive sales fees for SMEs. Expected to start this May.

Mr. Poonpong Nainapakorn, Director-General of the Department of Business Development, revealed that the department has launched "Thailand Helps Thailand" Phase 2 by adding sales channels through online platforms and delivery by delivery riders from Grab and Lineman. Previously, consumers could only buy through department stores, wholesale-retail stores, and convenience stores. The department has brought house brand productshouse brandfrom three major retailers—Tops, Big C, and Lotus—as well as secondary brands from producers to sell on popular online platforms such as Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok at affordable prices. Additionally, buyers receive discount coupons averaging no less than 20-25% and free delivery within a 5-kilometer radius, starting from 16 April onward. This continues under the Ministry of Commerce and government policy to help alleviate living costs during the energy price crisis.

Regarding thehouse brandproducts to be discounted, these will be daily necessities such as soap, shampoo, detergent, toothpaste, rice, sugar, fish sauce, cooking oil, seasoning sauce, instant noodles, and canned food, with average discounts of 20-50%. Furthermore, the Ministry of Commerce will advance Phase 3 by promoting consumer goods from about 2,000 small and medium-sized (SME) producers to sell through the Thailand Helps Thailand project on online platforms. Discussions are underway with platform operators to waive sales fees for SMEs to reduce burdens on entrepreneurs, with a projected start around May.

“Phase 3 is currently under discussion with platform operators to waive fees for SMEs. Operators have reported that fees vary by product type, for example, Grab and Lineman charge up to 30%, Shopee 10-11% plus a 3% transaction fee and infrastructure fee of 1 baht per order or no more than 15%. Lazada and TikTok charge sales fees between 15-20%. Negotiations are expected to conclude soon.”.

Meanwhile, the department is analyzing obstacles, strengths, and weaknesses from selling Thailand Helps Thailand products across all channels. It is compiling feedback from the public, participating businesses, and related government agencies to develop analytical reports. These will serve as models for the Ministry of Commerce’s projects to help ease living costs and enhance effective, tangible, and beneficial public services for the people.
