
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Supachai Suthumpun revealed that in the realm of international trade, Thailand might be perceived as engaging in "transshipment" in certain industries. The US has requested clarifications on three product groups: automotive, rubber, and machinery sectors. Thailand has responded, affirming that its local content proportion exceeds the level under scrutiny.Additionally,Thailand is currently undergoing investigations on several issues, the first being a joint probe alongside 16 other countries.
Meanwhile, another case concerns allegations of forced labor, involving over 60 countries under examination worldwide. Thailand has provided comprehensive information and found no evidence supporting these allegations.
Regarding the review process, from April 28 to May 14, the US will hold public hearings to allow all parties to comment on the information Thailand submitted. On May 13-14, technical consultations will take place with the US Trade Representative (USTR).
Simultaneously, from May 3 to 6, Supachai is scheduled to visit the United States to negotiate with the USTR and lead Thai business representatives at the SELECT USA
INVESTMENT SUMMIT 2026, showcasing Thai private sector investment potential, reflecting ongoing Thai investment in the US, and fostering positive understanding of bilateral economic relations.
At the same time, Thailand is pushing forward with trade agreement negotiations to increase the number of products on the tariff exemption list (Exempt List) as much as possible by leveraging theGolden Periodand Window Period opportunities under US Section 122, which sets an import tariff rate of 10% and will expire on July 24, 2026.
