The Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) emphasizes international port security standards to instill confidence in operators and users, stressing its readiness to respond to all global logistics situations.
The Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) has strengthened its readiness in international port security and is developing comprehensive risk management and emergency response systems amid ongoing impacts on maritime transport from global security and international logistics issues, aiming to build confidence among shipping operators, users, and businesses reliant on the country's water transportation system.
Lieutenant Commander Ratkorn Kiewpaisan, Deputy Director of PAT's Finance and Corporate Strategy Division and Acting Director of the Port Authority of Thailand, revealed that PAT has enhanced its international port security readiness and developed comprehensive risk management and emergency response systems amid the global security and logistics challenges affecting maritime transport. This effort aims to build trust among shipping operators, service users, and water transport-dependent businesses. Therefore, PAT has adopted modern technology and systematic safety management practices alongside participation in the Global Ports Safety (GPS) project in cooperation with the European Union and France to improve maritime security standards, hazardous cargo management, and emergency management in commercial port areas in line with international best practices.
PAT has developed a comprehensive Emergency Management system including surveillance, alerting, command, and inter-agency coordination, regularly reviewing response plans and conducting continuous drills—both practical and tabletop exercises—to test communication systems, decision-making, and staff readiness in realistic simulated scenarios.
At the operational level, PAT has also conducted security drills compliant with the ISPS Code, particularly full-scale exercises at Bangkok Port, to test situation control, emergency response, and handling of security threats and unexpected incidents affecting ships and port areas.
All these efforts demonstrate PAT's readiness to maintain continuous port services under any circumstances, operating 24 hours a day as usual. PAT confirms that its infrastructure, management systems, and cooperation with private maritime industry partners are well-prepared to effectively handle changes in the global environment.
"PAT has prepared by enhancing personnel capabilities, improving operational procedures, and coordinating with relevant agencies to respond swiftly and efficiently to situations. We uphold the principle that safety is the core of port service. We aim for all processes to be safe, transparent, and auditable to build maximum confidence among users and support the country's logistics system to progress steadily under the concept 'Empowering Thailand’s Future'," the Acting Director of PAT added.
