Phattharaphong Orders Flight Plan Adjustments Amid Middle East Crisis, Warns Against Forbidden Words on Aircraft

Phattharaphong chaired a meeting with aviation agencies to monitor the escalating tensions in the Middle East, which are impacting flight routes and operational costs. He ordered immediate adjustments to counter these effects and called for integration across all agencies to work as a unified team. The goal is to enhance safety and passenger confidence while promoting regional airports as economic gateways that connect travel, tourism, and investment.

Mr. Phattharaphong Phatrapasit, Deputy Minister of Transport, revealed after discussions with executives of aviation agencies under his supervision that they reviewed their missions and set directions for joint work. Present were executives and officials from Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Ltd. (AEROTHAI), the Department of Airports (DOA), and Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel Co., Ltd. He noted that the current aviation situation, especially in the tense Middle East region, affects flight routes, costs, and air traffic management. Therefore, adapting promptly is necessary. He emphasized that managing the airspace is a critical task involving security, safety, and passenger confidence.

He also stressed the integration of work among agencies involved in air traffic control, airports, and related businesses to maximize efficiency. He views all agencies as needing to work as "one team" from policy to operational levels. He highlighted the development of regional airports, stating that airports are not just points for aircraft takeoff and landing but are "city gateways" that drive local economies through tourism, investment, and community income. Thus, improving connectivity by air and linking with other transport systems is urgent. Concrete policy implementation will elevate both safety and efficiency in Thailand's aviation system while creating long-term economic opportunities for the country.

Strict safety controls enforced; warning issued against misusing "forbidden words" on flights

Mr. Phattharaphong addressed the incident where a passenger claimed to have prohibited dangerous items in carry-on luggage on Thai AirAsia flight FD 4401 from Krabi to Suvarnabhumi, causing the aircraft to return to the gate and follow safety protocols. He assigned AEROTHAI, the regulatory body, to closely monitor the situation and fully facilitate air traffic control as part of its duties.

He emphasized that safety remains paramount and stressed integrated cooperation among all relevant agencies, ready to support emergency airline assistance 24/7. AEROTHAI reported that they managed flights according to established emergency response measures without impacting overall service.

Additionally, AEROTHAI was instructed to prepare for all scenarios, including normal operations with increased flights and emergencies, to ensure maximum safety for passengers and aircraft.

He also urged aviation agencies to campaign and publicize to the public about "forbidden words" at airports and onboard aircraft. Any claims or actions causing alarm, whether intentional or as a joke, are illegal and will be strictly handled by authorities. Passengers are assured that air travel remains a safe option and plays a crucial role in driving the economy and generating national income.
