Commerce Ministry Clarifies Pimrypie Durian Live Sale, Emphasizes Promotions Are Retailers Rights No Special Government Support

The Ministry of Commerce clarified the case of well-known influencer "Pimrypie" live-streaming durian sales, stating it is a promotion arranged and priced directly with farmers. The ministry confirmed the government supports live commerce channels for all agricultural entrepreneurs to help sell produce, without granting special privileges to anyone. It has ordered close monitoring of market mechanisms to prevent farmers from being underpriced and exploited.

Mr. Kornit Nonjuay, spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce, addressed the public interest in the live-stream durian sales by the popular influencer "Pimrypie" (Pimrypie). He said the ministry inquired with the entrepreneur, learning that the entrepreneur personally intends to assist farmers, aligning with the ministry's policy to expand sales channels for Thai fruits.

Commerce Ministry emphasizes Live Commerce is a new channel without special privileges for any party.

Selling via Live Commerce directly from production sources is a key tool that quickly distributes products and reaches a broad consumer base, responding to increased production this year. In Pimrypie's case, sourcing durians for live sales with promotions is a marketing strategy to accelerate product clearance. This has been an ongoing practice annually, aiming to establish a stable secondary market and help raise farmers' product prices.

However, the Ministry of Commerce affirmed that the government is open and welcomes all private entrepreneurs to participate in elevating agricultural product prices through Live Commerce, without a policy to support any specific influencer or entrepreneur exclusively.

Emphasizing prices follow market mechanisms to prevent exploitation of farmers.

Regarding sales methods, promotions, and pricing, the Commerce Ministry spokesperson said these are negotiated directly between farmers and sellers, allowing agreements that reflect costs and satisfy farmers. The ministry will closely supervise transactions to ensure they follow genuine market mechanisms and prevent farmer price suppression.
